Prague 1/ It was very lively on the StřeleckýIsland over the weekend – it was a paradise for fish lovers who came here, whether they love fish in the water, on a hook or on a plate. While the professionals competed throughout all of Saturday and Sunday as part of the Orvis Cup fly fishermen contest, the onlookers definitely did not have to be bored. They had the opportunity to learn how to prepare fish specials or to properly cast with a five time champion in fishing technique Karel Světelský. Festive program also awaited the smallest of visitors.
Winner of the fly fishing contest the Orvis Cup, which was attended by professional fishermen from all corners of Europe became David Říha from České Budějovice. Silver and bronze were also achieved by Czech nationals – second place went to Pavel Kudrna and the brand new European champion Luboš Roza came in third. The competition also included women – best of them, Eva Dolenská, finished in 35th place. Youngest fisherman was 11 years old, oldest one was 81 years of age.

Fishermen pulled out 960 trout
COMPETITION Vltava belonged to fly fishermen
StřeleckýIsland – Fishermen from all corners of the republic as well as several European states took to the rowboats over the weekend and rocked on the Vltava around the StřeleckýIsland. What was happening here was the 3rd season of the fly fishing race the Orvis Cup, which was attended by about 100 people. The youngest was 11 and oldest was 81 years of age. “It is definitely about lack and this year I had plenty,” shared his feelings the race winner David Říha, who caught 27 fish over the weekend.
Of the ten thousand trout, which were released into the river, 960 were caught by the fly fishermen. Their total length was 314 meters.
